Greed

Chapter one- Naomi- 2014- Part 3

Time passed and as did people. The sky brightened for longer and longer each day and the weather got warmer and warmer adding to the musty heat of the over populated city. Naomi found herself walking the streets once more in the darkest hours, but what she saw wasn't like the peace and tranquility of the country.

As nights flew by and the days added up, the horror of life here was becoming clearer and clearer. Every street revealed a new shadow lying in the doorways of large corporate shops and offices. While, peacefully in their beds the owners, oblivious to the going ons below, slept till dawn light shone through their windows. More often than not she saw homeless men beating each other up simply for a scrap of bread. Best leave them too it though, she thought, never know what they may have up their sleeves. By day time though these people of the night would have gone, fearful of the crowds that swarmed pass each day, occasionally with a kick or a spit for them. It was a terrifying new reality Naomi had never in her life in-counted before. At first when she had mentioned it to Logan he had just laughed and said there was no such thing as this life in the city. It wasn't long before it became unnoticed by her too. She now just added to the never ending hustle and bustle of the street chaos, a numbed mind.

Up high in one of the sky scrapers a tall lady looked down at the ant farm below.
'Funny isn't it how one tiny blockade in their way and they change completely, funny how easy it is to implement that change from up here.'
She looked round at the last word at the man standing behind her.
'We have all the power, leave them be and they will thrive but we will always be needed in some way or another. Give them bread and they will rise up too powerful. Give them pain and they will live on.'
He had no idea where she was going with it and it seems never would because that was where she cut off. Lost in her own thoughts. Deep in her mind a plan was weaving, dark like the world below her.

As the sun started rising in the west lands and the moon set in the east, unaware of their presence in peoples lives, Naomi sat watching the change in sky. When the moon had finally disappeared she stood up and walked, sighing, to her cupboards reached in a pulled out a suit, so new the labels had not been pulled off yet. Slipping it on and snipping of the labels seemed too new to her and she found herself uncomfortable at the feelings. It took her a while looking in the mirror until she found herself looking proudly and smartly back. It was then that she finally sat down in the kitchen, opened a newspaper and ate, waiting.

It probably should be longer and more proof-read seeing as its almost 11 at night right now and I want to die inside. BUT I owe it to you guys and what better to do when you cannot sleep. Once again I apologize for its length, better something than nothing though right? Don't get me wrong I enjoy writing this, only recently have found myself getting back into writing. Exams and essays tend to take that want away. Love you all, sleep tight and keep reading.
